Australian Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 804)

The Australian Aged Parent (Subclass 804) visa allows older parents who are already on temporary visas to live in Australia permanently and they are sponsored by their child who is:

  • an Australian citizen; or
  • permanent resident; or
  • eligible New Zealand citizen who is settled in Australia.

Parent (Subclass 103 visa) and Aged Parent (Subclass 804) visas are subject to capping so there is a long queue (currently, waiting times of up to 13 years before this visa is approved). Eligible aged parents may apply for the Contributory Aged Parent (Subclass 864) visa, but that visa will incur much higher application fee and an Assurance of Support bond will be required.

Pass the Balance Of Family Test

  • at least half of your children and step-children are eligible children, or
  • there are more eligible children living in Australia than in any other single country.

Aged Parent Visa Application Fee

$6,415 (AUD) – 2 Steps Installment. Pay the second instalment when the Department asks.

No Records of Visa Refusal or Cancellation

The applicant might not be eligible for this visa if the applicant has had a visa cancelled or refused.

Consider Other Parents Visas

Other parent visas have faster processing times:

  • The Contributory Aged Parent visa (subclass 864) is a permanent visa.
  • The  Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 884), then a permanent Contributory Aged Parent visa (subclass 864).

This 2-step visa process is much faster but costs more than the subclass 804 visa. It also costs more than applying directly for the Contributory Aged Parent visa (subclass 864), but the cost is spread across the 2 visas over a longer period.

An Assurance of Support

An Assurance of Support is a legal document and commitment from an Assurer that the applicants’ sponsoring family members will provide financial assistance to the applicant and their accompanying family members so the applicant does not need to rely on any government support for the duration of the Assurance of Support period.
