Australian Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417)

This working holiday visa is for young people, aged between 18-30, from ‘working holiday eligible passport countries’ (currently 19 countries) who wish to be in Australia for a working holiday.  The processing time is between 3 working days to 4 weeks after your documents are with the embassy. Further precessing may be required by the Australian Immigration Office in som circumstances.

12 Japan Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of Japan. 30
13 Malta Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of Malta. 30
14 Netherlands Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of the Netherlands. 30
15 Norway Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of Norway. 30
16 Republic of Korea Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of the Republic of Korea. 30
17 Sweden Passport must indicate that the applicant is a national of Sweden. 30
18 Taiwan Passport must not purport to be an official or diplomatic passport. 30
19 United Kingdom Passport must indicate that the applicant’s nationality is British Citizen or British National (Overseas). 30

Working Holiday Visa Requirements

The applicant must be applied for outside Australia and must not work for an employer for more than 6 months. This visa is for 1 year validity, but it can be renewed. For a second year, the applicant has to work in regional area for 3 months.

Working Holiday (Subclass 417) Visa

This visa lasts for 12 months and allows young people to work in specified occupations for Australian employers.

Work and Holiday (Subclass 462)  Visa

The Work and Holiday Visa is similar but different from the Working Holiday 417 Visa.

Specified Work

(2)  Plant and animal cultivation:

                     (a)  the harvesting and/or packing of fruit and vegetable crops;

                     (b)  pruning or trimming vines and trees;

                     (c)  general maintenance crop work;

                     (d)  cultivating or propagating plants, fungi or their products or parts;

                     (e)  immediate processing of plant products;

                      (f)  maintaining animals for the purposes of selling them or their bodily produce, including natural increase;

                     (g)  immediate processing of animal products including shearing, butchery, packing and tanning;

                     (h)  manufacturing dairy produce from raw material.

(3)  Fishing and pearling:

                     (a)  conducting operations relating directly to taking or catching fish and other aquatic species;

                     (b)  conducting operations relating directly to taking or culturing pearls or pearl shell.

(4)  Tree farming and felling:

                     (a)  planting or tending trees in a plantation or forest that are intended to be felled;

                     (b)  felling trees in a plantation or forest;

                     (c)  transporting trees or parts of trees that were felled in a plantation or forest to the place where they are first to be milled or processed, or any other place from which they are to be transported to the place where they are to be milled or processed.

(5)  Mining:

                     (a)  coal mining;

                     (b)  oil and gas extraction;

                     (c)  metal ore mining;

                     (d)  construction material mining;

                     (e)  other non-metallic mineral mining and quarrying;

                      (f)  exploration;

                     (g)  mining support services.

(6)  Construction:

                     (a)  residential building construction;

                     (b)  non-residential building construction;

                     (c)  heavy and civil engineering construction;

                     (d)  land development and site preparation services;

                     (e)  building structure services;

                      (f)  building installation services;

                     (g)  building completion services;

                     (h)  other construction services.

The Second Year Working Holiday Visa

The Australian Working Holiday Visa Extension (2nd year) is available to young people who have completed 3 months specified work in regional areas in Australia while on their first year Working Holiday visa.
